Best pirate – level 3

Henry Morgan (1635-1688) belonged to the most feared pirates of the Caribbean. He came from Wales. Till now there had been no traces of his journeys. But this year scientists of Texas University have claimed the discovery of six cannons which most probably belonged to this famous captain! They found them near the cliffs in Northern Panama. This place was the scene of Henry Morgan’s shipwreck in 1671.

“Every pupil learns about Morgan’s deeds but we didn’t have any of his equipment. If these are really his cannons, they are the first in the world,” says the archaeologist about this unique discovery.

The story of Captain Morgan is full of blood and violence. At first under the name of England, later on his own he terrorized Spanish colonies in the Caribbean. His most dreadful deed is the capture of Central American town Panama which he almost completely destroyed. Because of this he was imprisoned by the English. However, after two years he gained forgiveness from English king Charles II. Stuart (1630-1685) and was even appointed a governor of Jamaica.
