I don’t want a mobile – level 1

19/06/2011 13:23

This is a story about people and mobile phones.

I am in a bank. I want to have a new account. The bank manager wants to know my name and address. He wants to know my mobile phone number.

‘I don’t have a mobile phone,’ I say.

‘I don’t understand. Everybody has a mobile now!’ he says.

‘No, I don’t have a mobile. I do not like mobiles. I can tell you why:

A man is outside. He is in the mountains. He breaks his leg. He needs help. But his mobile phone has no signal in the mountains.

I am waiting for my friend at a station. Her train comes. She is not there. I am waiting and waiting. I call her from a telephone box. She doesn’t answer. After one hour she comes. Her mobile has no battery.

I am in the restaurant with my friend. She has a mobile phone. She calls with somebody. I only sit and sit. I don’t like it. I am angry. I pay and I go home.

I am in the cinema. The film is very good. But the woman near me has a mobile phone. She is talking with her friend. I cannot hear the film.

So I do not have a mobile phone and I do not like mobile phones.’

The bank manager understands.
