I have a dream – level 2

A black lady didn’t want to stand up from her place on a city bus when a white man wanted to sit down. The police took her to a police station. It was in Montgomery, USA in 1955. This moment started a boycott of city buses in Montgomery by black people. They didn’t want to have different places on buses for black and white people. The black people stopped using city buses and they walked. There was no money for the bus company. The boycott took one year. After one year the people in Washington said that different places on buses for black and white people are not possible. The black people were winners.

One of the bosses of the boycott was Martin Luther King. He wanted the same for black and white people. He worked hard many years. He said his most famous words in Washington on August 28, 1963. It has a name “I have a dream”. He wanted the same conditions for all people both black and white. He was very good at his work. In 1964 he was the youngest person who got the Nobel Peace Prize. Martin Luther King was killed on April 4, 1968. Martin Luther King birthday is now a holiday in the USA.

This is the text for the video. The second part is difficult to understand.

In 1961 protesters in New Georgia demonstrated again discrimination. They were arrested despite following the principle of non-violence preached by Martin Luther King Junior. In Washington on August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Junior made his famous plea for freedom and equality.

I have a dream that one day...
