Mermaid – level 3
A mermaid is a water being who has a female human head and upper part of her body and the tail like a fish. There are a lot of fairy tales about mermaids in human culture.
The word “mermaid” is created from “mere” which is an Old English word for “sea” and “maid” which means “young woman”.
The stories about Mermaids are about 3000 years old and the most famous one is The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen.
Mermaids are beautiful but have a bad reputation for pulling people under water. They forget that humans cannot breathe under water and so they kill them when pulling them down.
This short video is about Mermaids too:
Marshall, do you know how the myth of mermaids came to be?
It was 300 years ago. Sailors stuck at sea would get desperate for female companionship. They got so bad that eventually the manatees (sea animals) out in the water started to look like beautiful women, mermaids.
Let’s go get some tail.
