VIDEO: The Beatles - level 3

17/07/2011 19:06

The Beatles are a symbol of Britain just like the Royal Family or driving on the left. It’s incredible how fast they became popular not only in the United Kingdom but throughout the world. They played together for just about 10 years (1960-1970) and they soon became leaders of the musical “British Invasion” into the United States. Everybody copied their style or clothes. At a concert they wore different clothes than other bands and their hair was unique. They visited many countries including the former Soviet Union and the USA. After the Beatles broke up in 1970, all four musicians continued in their solo careers. Now, only two of them are still alive. John Lennon was shot dead in December, 1980, and George Harrison died of cancer in November, 2001.

The Beatles are the best-selling band in the history of popular music.

John Lennon was the band leader and played the guitar. He was also a singer, songwriter, artist, and peace activist. He was a rebel with a good sense of humour which often brought problems.

Paul McCartney played the bass guitar. He was the only left-handed person in the band. He is the most successful musician and composer in popular music history. He also helps international charities. Paul has composed classical music, too. He’s made some films, paints pictures, and writes poetry.

George Harrison was the youngest Beatle. He played the lead guitar. He also composed some of the songs. Hinduism influenced his life. He was very religious and played different Indian instruments. George was famous for his charity activities.

Ringo Starr was the oldest Beatle. He is a very talented drummer. Ringo didn’t sing much but he was the central character in the films A Hard Day’s Night, Help! and Yellow Submarine.

We play for you the song Yesterday.
