Wimbledon champion – level 1

04/07/2011 11:09

Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic is the Wimbledon champion. She is 21 years old. She was better than Maria Sharapova in the final. Maria Sharapova was the best at Wimbledon in 2004. Kvitova won 6-3 6-4 on Centre Court on Saturday.

Kvitova is the first Czech woman after Jana Novotna in 1998. Jana Novotna and Martina Navratilova were in the Royal Box.

“It’s difficult to find some words,” Kvitova said after the match. “I’m standing here. I have the trophy. And I see some great players in the Royal Box. It’s very nice that Martina Navratilova and Jana Novotna are watching me. They helped me all the time at Wimbledon.”

Sharapova said after the match: “There is only one winner at the end of day. I had great help so many years from my friends. I was in the final this year. I wanted to get the trophy. I will come back next year and I will get it.”
