Baby elephant in Sri Lanka – level 2

29-11-2023 15:00

Hambantota is a port city in Sri Lanka. It is known for hundreds of wild elephants that walk around freely.

A baby elephant was walking near the main road when it fell into a drain. Local port workers and wildlife officials saved the elephant. They took it to a doctor and now they are treating it for a broken leg.

Difficult words: drain (a hole/a space in the ground where the water goes if there is too much of it), official (somebody in a position of authority), treat (to give medical care to).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What safety measures are in place to protect wild elephants from falling into drains near the main road in Hambantota?
