Big meeting in North Korea - level 3

01-07-2013 06:00

North Korea marks the 63rd anniversary of the Korean War by holding a mass rally in Pyongyang's Kim Il-Sung Square.

The Korean War started on June 25, 1950, when troops from the Communist North launched a surprise attack on South Korea.

Three million people lost their lives and five million were left refugees in the conflict, between the US-led United Nations forces and the Chinese and Soviet-backed North Korea.

Hundreds of people attended the rally, including senior party and state officials, and they held banners and posters with anti-US slogans.

Interesting words: mark (celebrate), rally (big meeting of people), troops (soldiers).
