Birds stopped work - level 3

Birds stopped work - level 3

31-05-2013 14:00

A building project in the city of Xinzheng in central China's Henan Province has been suspended due to some unexpected guests.

Thousands of swallows have begun nesting in the foundations which cover an area the size of a football pitch. According to local residents, the swallows turned up in the spring because they prefer the earth in the area. Experts say the Eurasian Crag Martins would normally build their nests in mud, flying south in the winter but returning to the north for breeding season.

Local authorities have suspended construction until late July when the young birds will be able to fly.

Interesting words: suspend (stop for some time), swallow (small bird), turn up (appear), Eurasian Crag Martins (kind of swallow).
