Boat in Thailand – level 2

Boat in Thailand – level 2

23-09-2016 15:00

A boat with more than a hundred people capsized in Thailand. At least 13 people died and many are still missing.

Most of the double-decker boat’s passengers were Muslim pilgrims. They were returning from a religious rite in Ayutthaya, which is around 80 kilometres north of the capital of Bangkok.

Accidents like this one are normal in Thailand, where safety standards are often far below international norms.

Difficult words: capsize (overturn in the water), pilgrim (a person who travels somewhere because of his or her religion), rite (a ceremony).
