Boy on a balcony – level 3

Boy on a balcony – level 3

12-03-2013 14:00

Look closely and you’ll see something that shocked the man who filmed it, the boy hanging from the side of a residential building in Chongqing, China. As the boy dangled, clinging on for dear life from the 7th floor, onlookers decided what they could do. Most thought they wouldn’t be able to make it up there to save him.

One man thought better. Part-time policeman Yang Guoping was walking past and sprung into action. This footage shows him 20 meters up.

It took him about 15 minutes to save the boy. Local residents say the boy may have retreated to the balcony, when a curtain in the room caught fire. But thanks to the passing policeman he’s now safe and well.

Interesting words: dangle (hang), cling on (hold), onlooker (person who watches an activity), walk past (walk along), spring (move suddenly), retreat (move away from).
