Bus driver helps a girl - level 3

Bus driver helps a girl - level 3

12-11-2013 14:00

New footage shows a New York bus driver stopping a girl from jumping off a bridge to her death.

“Miss, you alright? Miss?”

Darnell Barton was driving a bus full of high school teenagers, when he saw the girl standing on the edge of the expressway.

“Ma’am, are you okay? Ma’am, are you okay? Ma’am, are you okay? Ma’am? Ma’am?”

After only moments of speaking to her, she climbed to safety.

Two more drivers who’d been behind the bus also came to help, speaking to the woman until police and an ambulance arrived.

When the ambulance drove away, Mr. Barton got back on his bus and received a standing ovation from the high school students who’d been watching through the windows.

Difficult words: footage (video), expressway (wide road in a city), standing ovation (when people stand while they’re clapping because they like something very much).
