Changes in Iran - level 3, A11
There was a law in Iran which said, “If you are younger than 18 years of age and you steal something, you would go to prison or you could be put to death.” The same rule applied if you were drinking a lot of alcohol. The law also said, “If you had sex with somebody else other than your wife or husband, you would be stoned to death. If you are homosexual, you would be put to death too.”
There was big pressure from other countries to change this law and finally the law is going to be changed but only by a little bit.
The punishments are not going to be so severe. For example, it will still be a crime to have sex with your girlfriend or boyfriend. So if you want to have sex in Iran, you have to be married first.
