Armero was a town in Colombia. 13th November 1985 was the day when this town was completely destroyed by a volcano. The name of the volcano was "Nevado del Ruiz". There were 31,000 people living in Armero before the tragedy happened and around 23,000 people died. A lot of Colombians were angry after the tragedy because the government knew that the catastrophe was coming but they didn’t evacuate the people in time. So people say that Armero’s catastrophe was the government’s mistake. A newspaper wrote, “The volcano didn´t kill thousands of people. The government did". The town of Armero was an important place for business before the tragedy. Today we can only see there a petrol station and some destroyed buildings.
