Dangerous bullfights in Colombia – level 3

Dangerous bullfights in Colombia – level 3

04-04-2013 06:00

Shocking scenes from a bullfight in northern Colombia after participants are caught by the animals with two men even being killed whilst trying to subdue them.

Doctors said one of the victims, 46-year-old  Daniel Cardona, was killed when the bull's horn pierced his heart while another died later in hospital.

"Unfortunately, the animal caught him by surprise and gored him. According to the doctors who were at the scene it was a very deep stab to the heart."

At least 15 others were injured on the second day of the bullfighting festival which takes place on the country's Caribbean coast.

Despite the high risks involved and widespread protests from animal rights activists the sport still remains a popular activity in Colombia.

Interesting words: subdue (control), pierce (make a hole with something sharp), gore (injure with a horn), stab (act when you push something sharp through something).
