Fastest car - level 2

Fastest car - level 2

04-03-2014 07:00

A super car set a new speed record earlier this month. The maximum speed was 270.49 miles per hour (435 kilometres per hour).

The car’s name is Hennessey Venom GT. It’s now known as the fastest car in the world. The record-setting run happened at a space centre in Florida on a runway made for space shuttle landings. The run took less than a minute.

However, we don’t know whether the car’s achievement will make it to the Guinness World Records. To be officially recognised, a car must make two runs in opposite directions. That’s something which was not allowed on this runway.

Difficult words: super car (a very special car), run (short journey), achievement (something you do successfully), recognise (to accept or say that something is true).

You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
