Flying machine in New Zealand - level 3
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's what jetpack developers in New Zealand are calling a motorbike in the sky.
The Martin Aircraft Company in Christchurch has been given the "go ahead" for manned test flights taking them one step closer to creating commercially available jetpacks.
Their latest prototype can climb above one kilometre and reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (113 kilometres per hour). According to test pilot James Bowker, it feels pretty good.
"Mixture of scary and just awesome, but when you're actually in it, it's all behind you and you just get lifted off the ground."
The company hopes to put jetpacks on the market as early as next year but with a $150,000 price tag it's all up in the air as to whether it will take off or not.
Difficult words: developer (person who works on a product and wants to make it successful), commercially (financially), price tag (little paper with price on it).
