Heavy rain in Sicily and Athens – level 2
Heavy rains caused chaos across much of southern Europe. In Italy, strong waters carried away cars. Some 50-litres of rain per square metre fell in just half an hour. Hundreds of firefighters were called to rescue people. Only one person was injured by the high waters.
Heavy rain fell in Greece too. In Athens, one woman died and hundreds of people were blocked in their cars. There was no electricity and big traffic jams made much of Athens a city that was not moving.
Interesting words: caused (started), carrying (taking).
