Highway in Peru – level 2

02-09-2016 07:00

Over 100 families fought with police when the police evicted them from their homes in Peru. Some 59 volunteers from peace missions and 180 policemen were at the scene.

Children ran after their relatives. Volunteers carried belongings from the homes because heavy machinery destroyed the houses.

This was all because of the expansion of a highway. Land conflicts are a big problem in Peru and now they are becoming a part of life in other parts of Latin America, too.

Difficult words: evict (to make somebody leave their home), volunteer (a person who does some work without getting money for it), expansion (the action of making something bigger).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
