International Women's Day – level 3

International Women's Day – level 3

11-03-2013 06:00

International Women's Day has been celebrated around the world today with each country sharing its own message.

In India where several high profile rape cases have shone the spotlight on women's rights recently, over a hundred women marched in the capital, New Delhi, calling on the government to do more to protect them.

In South Africa, hundreds of drummers played on a busy Johannesburg street with the message that violence against women should stop.

While the song 'One Woman' featuring artists from all over the world has been released to mark the occasion. Written for UN women, it’s a rallying cry for women's rights and gender equality.

Interesting words: shine the spotlight (write about something in newspapers), feature (involve), occasion (event), rallying cry (slogan), gender (the fact of being male or female).
