Koala swims to people - level 3, A12

30-08-2012 22:00

A group of canoeists have had an unexpected surprise whilst travelling along a creek in Australia after a koala has swum up to their boats.

Not normally known for their swimming skills, the friendly bear was filmed approaching the group who then lifted him into the canoe.

It’s thought the animal have felt trapped on a bank of the tidal creek and decided the canoe was his best available escape route and while it sounded like someone wanted to keep him, after hitching his lift the Koala was put in an area with lots of gum trees by the astonished canoeists.

Interesting words: whilst (while), creek (small river), tidal (connected with tides), route (way), hitch a lift (get a free ride from someone while travelling ), gum tree (eucalyptus).
