Man and fire - level 3
An attempted arson attack in Rochdale, England went wrong for the would-be arsonist when he managed to set himself on fire while trying to set a recovery van alight.
CCTV footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows the man squirting flammable liquid onto the bonnet of the vehicle before trying to set light to it. However, as he does so the area around him bursts into flames and the man is then seen running off down the street with his arm on fire. He’s said to have escaped in a light-coloured Nissan Micra.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the attack, which took place at around 5 am on February the 5th, but the front door and windows of a nearby house were damaged. Greater Manchester Police are still looking for the man.
Difficult words: arson attack (crime of making something burn), alight (on fire), squirt (spray), bonnet (metal lid over the front of a car).
