Meteor in Iowa - level 3

Meteor in Iowa - level 3

09-01-2014 06:00

A fireball flying through the sky caught the eye of hundreds of people over the border of Iowa and Minnesota.

The image was caught on tape by a security camera and seems to show a fiery object streaking across the night sky on the 26th of December.

The American Meteor Society says that it’s received reports from over 700 people of the fireball.

Witnesses apparently reported an object “as bright as the sun that fragmented into many parts”. And others reported “sonic effects associated with the meteor.”

Although many do believe it to be a meteor, there’s no confirmation of what the Boxing Day fireball actually was. So, I like to believe it was Santa on his sleigh heading home after a hard day’s work.

Difficult words: caught the eye (get attention), streak (move fast), fragment (break into a lot of small parts), sonic (relating to sound or the speed of sound), associated (related to), Boxing Day (national holiday in England and Wales, on the first day after Christmas Day that is not a Sunday).
