Mississippi tornado destroys homes - level 3

18-04-2013 14:00

At least one person has been killed and several others injured after a storm tore through Mississippi.

Aerial footage showed homes destroyed and trees uprooted as severe weather saw strong winds, driving rain and even a tornado roar through parts of the state.

The death and five injuries occurred in Kemper County, where about 4,000 homes also had power knocked out by the storms.

The tornado was part of a storm system that’s been crawling eastward over the last few days, producing twisters and destructive winds in Arkansas, hail and high winds in Texas, heavy snow in Colorado and flood warnings in Illinois.

Interesting words: tear (move very quickly), aerial (from a plane), uprooted (pulled out of earth), roar (make a deep very loud noise), crawling (moving), eastward (to the east), twister (tornado), hail (frozen rain drops).
