Monster Hurricane Irene – level 3

Monster Hurricane Irene – level 3

27-08-2011 13:00

Americans started to make reserves as Hurricane Irene is approaching New York and New Jersey. It is a tropical hurricane coming from the south from the Caribbean area. Shelves in some supermarkets are becoming completely empty. People in the cities along the East Coast are preparing for the worst hurricane in this area in recent years. The government ordered the evacuation of 250 000 people. This evacuation is mandatory (people have to do it). It is the first time in the history of New York City.

In the video you can see Hurricane Irene in the Bahamas. It was in the Bahamas on Thursday and now it is coming up north and getting stronger.

President Barack Obama warned 80 million Americans who are getting ready for Hurricane Irene to “be prepared for the worst”. “If you are in the path of this hurricane, you have to prepare now,” he said. “Don’t wait. Don’t delay.”

Those not being ordered to leave their homes are preparing supplies. Public transport systems in major cities around the northeast, where hurricanes are extremely rare, were completely shut down. The weather forecast expects winds of up to 180 km/h and up to 30 cm of rain water in all major cities, including New York.
