On October 31, 1864, Nevada was the 36th state of the United States. It is the seventh largest US state but only two million people live there. Nevada is in the southwest of the US and it is mostly desert. The US Army uses Nevada to test new systems. In 1950s there was nuclear testing there. There are not many towns in Nevada. A lot of them are empty towns. People lived in them in the 19th century during the time when people were looking for gold.

But Nevada is still popular four tourists. About 20 million tourists visit Nevada every year. They don’t go there for holiday. They go there for gambling. Las Vegas is the most famous place.

Las Vegas is not a very old city. It didn’t exist at the start of the 20th century. Now over one million people live there. In 2000 it had 14 of the world’s 15 largest hotels and a lot of casinos. Everybody wants to try his luck. All casinos are around one main street. There are also a lot of other attractions like the attraction in the second part of the video.

Las Vegas is also a popular place for getting married. More than one hundred thousand weddings are there every year.
