Pictures of the Earth - level 3

Pictures of the Earth - level 3

27-10-2015 15:00

NASA has launched a new website featuring images of the full, sunlit side of the Earth. The new colour images are taken by a NASA camera one million miles away.

The Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera captures the Earth as it orbits for a new project between NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Air Force. The project's objective is to maintain real time solar wind monitoring, which is critical for weather alerts and forecasts.

Each day, NASA will post images from 12 to 36 hours earlier, showing the Earth as it rotates. The pictures are truly out of this world.

Difficult words: launch (to start something), feature (to have something), polychromatic (colourful), objective (something which you want to achieve), post (to put on the Internet), out of this world (this is a pun—amazing and something that is not on Earth).
