Prisoners in Brazil make electricity - level 2, A12
Some prisoners in Brazil work out every day. They are not just getting fit, it helps them to make the time in prison shorter.
They are cycling and as they are cycling, they generate energy which lights streets in the outside world.
The project is part of a national program which helps prisoners give something back to their communities.
They cycle for 8 hours a day and for every three days of cycling, they get a day off their time in prison.
The prisoners say they feel like they’re making a difference. The streets that used to be dark and empty at night are full of light now and people feel safe enough to walk there again.
Interesting words: work out (exercise), generate (make), make a difference (do something which helps).
