Statue needs repair - level 1
The Christ the Redeemer statue is 125 feet (38 metres) tall. It is above Rio de Janeiro.
Lighting strikes the statue. Its right thumb and head are damaged. People repair the statue. They put metal rods on the statue. These rods send the lightning to the ground. The rods protect the statue. People make these rods longer. Longer rods protect the statue better.
People are working fast. The statue is very famous. A lot of people visit it. Lightning strikes the statue six times a year.
Difficult words: lightning (electricity in the sky), strike (hit), rod (long and thin piece of metal).
