Taxi turns over in China - level 3

21-01-2015 07:00

A driver and a passenger had a lucky escape when a taxi rolled over in the middle of a busy street in China.

CCTV footage shows the moment the car overturned, as the left front wheel collided with the pillar in the middle of the road.

The taxi driver said he didn’t notice the pillar that he crashed into.

“The control arm with the side window blocked the pillar on the pedestrian. When the green light was on, I drove slowly and one of the wheels collided with the pillar.”

People passing by rushed to help rescue the taxi driver and the passenger from the car once it overturned. Local traffic police arrived at the scene and found the windshield and side mirrors of the car were broken. They said he wasn’t looking out when turning left, causing the accident. The taxi has since been towed away from the scene.

Difficult words: CCTV footage (a security camera video), collide (to hit), pillar (a pole used for guiding cars), control arm (a part of the wheel), pedestrian (a sidewalk in this context), rush (to hurry), tow (to move).
