Tunnel from Mexico - level 3
It’s another win for the war on drugs. Mexican authorities have shut off access to a smuggling tunnel between Tijuana and the San Diego industrial park.
U.S. authorities discovered the “super tunnel” and arrested three people who were suspected of being connected to the operation. Authorities believe the Sinaloa Cartel built and operated the tunnel which was 1,760 feet in length from Mexico to a rented warehouse in a San Diego industrial area. The tunnel is fitted with its own electronic rail system, hydraulically operated doors, ventilation and electricity.
U.S. Federal agents confiscated more than 17,000 pounds of marijuana and 325 pounds of cocaine from the tunnel.
Officials reported this as being the first time cocaine has been found in cross-border tunnels.
Difficult words: authorities (local leaders), smuggling tunnel (tunnel for taking something from one country to another illegally), confiscate (take officially).
