Vaclav Havel, a former Czech Republic president, has died at the age of 75.
Vaclav Havel was a well-known writer who fought for freedom and democracy and spent a lot of years in communist prisons.
As president, he led Czechoslovakia’s transition to democracy and a free-market economy. He resigned as president of Czechoslovakia in 1992 when the country was divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. However, soon after when the Czech Republic was formed, he became its new president.
A black flag has been flying over Prague Castle and people have been lighting candles in the streets all around the country.
