3D-printed guns – level 2

27-06-2025 07:00

The murder of the United Healthcare CEO in 2024 helped people see the danger of 3D-printed ghost guns.

People make these guns at home with a 3D printer, which makes them hard to trace. The police found one in the bag of the murder suspect. It could fire many bullets and was not easy to break.

Many people learn how to make these guns online. On Telegram and other social media, people offer guns or parts and sometimes send them to other countries. A BBC reporter talked to one man selling these guns, who admitted it was illegal. Building these guns is not always easy, but more people are learning. Stronger tools and free guides help.

Some places have strict gun laws, but 3D printing makes it harder to stop people. Authorities are now trying to catch up, but it is very difficult.

Difficult words: ghost gun (a gun which you can make at home and nobody knows about it), admit (to say that something is true, especially something bad), catch up (to reach the same level or quality as someone or something else).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What role do Telegram and other social media platforms play in the proliferation of homemade 3D-printed ghost guns?
