A swan gets stuck – level 3

01-04-2025 15:00

A swan flying over a lake had a terrible accident when a branch blocked its way. Its head got stuck between two branches, leaving its body hanging in the air.

The swan’s neck was squeezed tightly, and it struggled desperately, but the more it fought, the worse it became. Its breathing became quick, and its frightened eyes showed fear. People walking nearby were heartbroken by its painful cries and quickly called a rescue team. A few minutes later, the team arrived with special equipment. A rescuer carefully held the swan’s body to relieve pressure on its neck while breaking the branch to free it. The injured bird was then taken to a veterinary hospital. Though no bones were broken, its wings were torn, and its legs were hurt. The rescue center cared for the swan, giving it a warm and safe place with food. At first, the swan was timid and afraid, but over time, it became stronger and more confident.

After two months of recovery, the team released it back into the lake. The other swans quickly recognized it, and they swam together again. The rescuers felt emotional as they watched the swan return to its home, knowing they had saved its life.

Difficult words: desperately (in a way that shows worry or sadness), timid (shy or afraid).

What critical steps did rescuers take to alleviate the swan’s distress and ensure its eventual return to a safe, familiar environment?
