Food and art – level 3

28-05-2025 07:00

In its latest issue, Bon Appétit magazine has created a special theme that mixes food with art. The magazine has introduced recipes that are inspired by famous artworks.

For example, a painting by abstract artist Helen Frankenthaler has been turned into a falafel burger with chickpea patties and pickled onions. A minimalist work by Agnes Martin became a dish of scallops with lemon-flavored spinach sauce. A colorful piece by feminist artist Judy Chicago was transformed into a salad of radishes and soft-boiled eggs. These recipes aim to reflect the spirit and colors of the original artworks through carefully chosen ingredients and presentation. One dessert tribute includes a cake inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s painting Cake Slice. The dessert includes layers of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry cake with sour cream frosting. These artistic recipes date back to artworks from as early as 1959, just a few years after Bon Appétit began publishing. This creative idea brings together visual art and culinary design in a unique and fun way.

Difficult words: scallop (soft round seafood), culinary (related to cooking or the kitchen).
