Forever chemicals – level 2
13-03-2026 07:00
Forever chemicals, called PFAS, are man-made substances which you can find in many things you use every day.
They are in non-stick pans, waterproof clothes, fast-food wrappers, cosmetics, and even food and water. These chemicals don’t break down in nature, so they stay there for a long time.
Some studies say PFAS may cause health problems, like lower fertility or some cancers. Rules say small amounts are safe, but scientists are still studying long-term effects on people and nature. You can lower your contact with PFAS by reading labels and carefully choosing what you buy and eat. Learning about these chemicals helps people be safe and healthy.
Difficult words: non-stick (a thing or material that does not let food stick to it), waterproof (material that doesn’t let water go through), fertility (the ability to have babies).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What actions can people take to reduce their contact with PFAS?
