Online bullying of Brigitte Macron – level 2

14-01-2026 07:00

A French writer shared an edited photo of the president’s wife and wrote false stories about her online.

He and nine other people went to court for cyberbullying, and the court found them guilty. The writer received a six-month suspended sentence and said he didn’t feel sorry.

The Macron family explained how the posts caused pain and stress. The stories spread fast on social media and reached many people. The judge said these actions caused harm, and they were not a normal opinion or humor.

Some people in France now worry about free speech, but many agree with stricter rules online. The president’s wife said she wants to help young people feel brave enough to speak out against bullying.

Difficult words: edited (changed from the original), cyberbullying (using the internet to hurt or attack someone), free speech (the right to say what you think).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did the president’s wife hope to encourage in young people after the court ruling?
