Paris AI summit – level 3
14-02-2025 07:00
The UK and the US didn’t sign an international AI agreement at a global summit in Paris. The declaration, supported by 60 countries including France, China, and India, promotes an open, inclusive, and ethical approach to AI.
The UK government stated it couldn’t agree with all parts of the declaration and would only support initiatives that align with national interests. The summit focused on reducing the digital gap, ensuring AI safety, and making the technology more transparent. India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, emphasized the need for global efforts to regulate AI while recognizing its potential to create jobs. He highlighted India’s focus on AI development and innovation, despite concerns about risks such as misinformation and job losses.
Meanwhile, US Vice President J.D. Vance encouraged Europe to embrace AI optimistically. He stressed the importance of international cooperation while ensuring that the US remains a leader in AI. The discussion about AI’s risks and opportunities will continue at the next summit in India.
Difficult words: declaration (an official statement), transparent (open and honest), embrace (to accept or welcome).
