Polar bear dip world record – level 2
10-03-2025 15:00
On March 1, 2025, 2,461 people in the Czech Republic broke the world record for the biggest polar bear dip. They jumped into the freezing water of Most Lake to beat the old record of 1,799 swimmers from Poland in 2015.
To set the record, people had to wear swimsuits, go into the water at least to their waists, and stay there for one minute. The water had to be colder than 10°C, and on this day, it was only 3.5°C. This event was very exciting, and many people around the world watched it. The swimmers were cold but happy.
People love testing themselves in difficult situations, and another country will likely try to break this record in the future.
Difficult words: waist (the part of the body between the ribs and the hips), likely (probably).
What were the conditions participants had to meet during the polar bear dip, including what they had to wear, how much of their body needed to be submerged, how long they stayed in the water, and what the water temperature had to be?
