Space junk – level 1
09-05-2025 15:00
There is a lot of space junk around Earth. This junk comes from old rockets and satellites. Some junk falls. Some junk stays in space. It can hit other objects. These objects break apart and make more junk.
France has the most junk in Europe. It also has many satellites. The UK has many satellites too, but not much junk. The European Space Agency (ESA) wants to stop the junk. ESA is trying to clean space. But it is hard because the junk belongs to many countries.
Cleaning the space costs a lot of money, too. ESA wants all countries to help and follow the same rules.
Difficult words: junk (old or broken things), hit (to crash into), break apart (to split into smaller pieces).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What makes it difficult for the European Space Agency to clean up space junk?
