TikTok chubby filter – level 2
03-04-2025 07:00
TikTok removed a filter that made people look chubbier after many people experienced body shaming.
The filter was popular for a short time and made people feel bad about their weight. There was also a filter that made people look thinner. Some say these filters make young people focus too much on their weight. TikTok took down the chubby filter, but the skinny filter is still there. Some people like these filters, saying they can motivate you to exercise. Others believe these filters can make people feel bad about themselves, eat less, or exercise too much. TikTok says it is working to remove harmful things, but many people think it is not enough.
It is hard for young people to ignore these trends, which can have a bad impact on their body image.
Difficult words: chubby (a little overweight), body shaming (criticizing somebody because of how they look), motivate (to inspire someone to do something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How might the juxtaposition of filters that emphasize thinner or chubbier appearances shape young people's perceptions of their own bodies and influence their behaviors?
