Total solar eclipse in Spain – level 2
19-08-2026 07:00
Millions of people in Europe watched an amazing solar eclipse in the sky. It was the best eclipse seen in the region since 1999.
People in Spain and Iceland saw a total eclipse, where the moon completely covered the sun and made the land dark. In the UK, the moon blocked most of the sun and left only a thin shape in the sky. Crowds of people gathered outside with special protective glasses to watch the rare event together. During the peak moment, the sky became dark, the air felt cold, and city lights came on during the daytime.
Scientists and tourists were very excited to see this rare event. Experts say that people in the UK will have to wait until 2090 to see another total solar eclipse like this one again.
Difficult words: eclipse (an event where one space object blocks the light of another space object), protective glasses (special glasses which protect your eyes from injury or bright light), peak (the highest point, strongest moment, or top level of something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Which countries saw a total eclipse where the moon completely covered the sun, and what did observers in the UK see instead?
