Japan’s elections – level 1

22-07-2025 07:00

Japan has an election. The prime minister is Mr. Ishiba. His party does not win. They do not have enough seats. But Mr. Ishiba wants to stay. He wants to talk to the US about money and business. The deadline is August 1.

Other parties win more seats. People like their ideas. They want to pay less tax. They want more help from the government. A new party called Sanseito talks about stopping people from other countries. Some people like this.

Now, Mr. Ishiba needs to talk to the other parties. They must work together. Some people who give money to Japan are not happy. They want to see good plans for the future.

Difficult words: election (when people vote to choose someone for a political or official job), deadline (the last day to do something), party (a group of people in a government with similar ideas).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What policies do the parties that won more seats propose to attract popular support?
