Sarah Ferguson calls Epstein her friend – level 2

26-09-2025 07:00

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, lost her role as patron of Julia’s House, a UK charity for sick children. The charity said it is not right for her to continue after an email showed she called Jeffrey Epstein her good friend.

The email was from 2011. In public, she said being close to Epstein was a big mistake, but she wrote kind words to him. Her team later explained she only did this to stop possible legal trouble. Epstein was a sex offender, and the charity wanted to protect its work and name. Ferguson became a patron in 2018, but now her connection ended. She didn’t comment on the case.

Other charities, like Teenage Cancer Trust, are checking if they will also keep her as a patron.

Difficult words: patron (a famous or important person who supports a group, often a charity), sex offender (a person who does a sexual offense), connection (a link or relationship between people or things).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What explanation did Ferguson’s team provide for her kind words to Jeffrey Epstein in the 2011 email?
