Saint Parascheva – level 2

20-10-2025 07:00

Many people in Iași, Romania, come to the Saint Parascheva pilgrimage every year. The event lasts eight days and ends on 14 October, the saint’s feast day.

People stand in long lines in the rain and cold to see the saint’s relics and pray. They feel happy and inspired when they visit. The city and cathedral have many flowers for the celebration. People decorate the streets and the courtyard with many flowers.

Saint Parascheva’s relics have a long history. They travelled from Greece, Serbia, and Bulgaria to Iași in 1641. The Romanian Orthodox Church chose her as a saint in 1955. Thousands of people visit every year, which shows how important the celebration is in Romania.

Difficult words: pilgrimage (a journey to a special place where people speak to their god), feast (a special meal or celebration, often for a holiday or festival), relic (an object connected to a saint).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which three countries did Saint Parascheva’s relics travel from before arriving in Iași?
