Bubble tea may not be healthy – level 2

03-11-2025 07:00

Bubble tea is a sweet drink from Taiwan. It has tea, milk, sugar, and soft balls called tapioca pearls. The drink became famous on social media, and people can buy it all around the world.

But doctors are worried about its health effects. Tests in the United States found small amounts of lead in tapioca pearls. They come from cassava, which can take heavy metals from the soil. Too much bubble tea can cause stomach pain, kidney stones, and obesity. It also has a lot of sugar, more than a cola. Some people can even choke on the pearls.

Health experts say to drink less, take smaller cups, and choose water when thirsty.

Difficult words: tapioca (a small soft ball from a plant), lead (a heavy metal that can be toxic), cassava (a tropical plant), choke (to have something block your throat so you cannot breathe properly).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What health problems have been linked to excessive consumption of bubble tea?
