Weather changes where wine grows – level 2
05-03-2026 07:00
Wine needs stable weather, but climate change is now changing many wine regions.
In Chile, long droughts, heat, and unusual weather make grape growing difficult. Small farmers struggle because they don’t have enough water. Big companies use science and new tools to protect plants and control water use.
In Germany, warmer weather helps grapes grow better than before. Wine quality improves because grapes ripen more easily. Still, new problems appear, such as bugs and stronger storms that can damage farms.
Climate change changes where people can make wine. Some places can grow better wine, while others lose production. Wine producers must adapt quickly and change their methods if they want to stay successful in the future.
Difficult words: stable (steady and not changing much), drought (long time without rain), ripen (when fruit becomes ready to eat).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What measures are large wine companies in Chile taking to protect grapevines and control water use amid prolonged droughts and heat?
