El Niño 2026 – level 1

22-06-2026 15:00

El Niño starts in the Pacific Ocean. This natural event makes the ocean water very warm. It changes the wind and rain around the whole world.

Scientists think that this El Niño will be stronger than ever. Together with climate change, it will make next year very hot. Some countries, like Australia and parts of Africa, will have very dry and hot weather. Other places will have big storms.

The United Nations says that governments must prepare right now. They need to help farmers grow food and make cool places to save people from dangerous heat.

Difficult words: natural (something what comes from or happens in nature and that people do not do), prepare (to get ready for something), heat (when it is too hot).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What two specific actions does the United Nations say governments must take right now to prepare for the hotter weather?
