Fungi are a very large and special group of living things. This group includes mushrooms, yeast, and millions of other species. Fungi look like plants, but they are closer to animals. They do not get energy from the Sun; they eat other materials.

Fungi are very important to nature. They help plants grow. They give them food from the soil. Some fungi do strange things, like changing ants into zombies or smelling like bad meat. This way, they attract flies.

Other strong fungi can live in dangerous radioactive places like Chernobyl. Big fungal networks keep carbon underground. This keeps the planet safe from climate change.
