England will let local leaders add a small tax to overnight hotel stays. People who stay in hotels, B&Bs, or holiday homes will pay a little extra money, usually under 5% of the room cost.

Some cities like Manchester already have a tax of 1 pound (1.14 euros) per room. The new plan will start before 2029. Many hotel owners do not like this new tax. They worry that visitors will go to other places to save money.

Studies show that a 10-pound (11.40 euros) fee might make people visit less. But each local leader can choose to use the tax or say no to it.

Difficult words: add (to put something together with something else), tax (money that people must pay to the government to pay for public services), fee (money which you pay for a particular service).
